JOSHUA'S BIRTHDAY
Today is Joshua's birthday. On this occassion he formally leaves his childhood and welcomes his teenage life, a new chapter filled with new freedoms, as well as responsibilites and the unescapable puberty-related problems. *snickers*
I only noticed now that the brother-sister relationship we have is...well, kinda special to me. The way he often uses my back as a pillow when we take afternoon naps, how he imitates the way I speak, and the times we'd tell mom to keep quiet when we watch Gundam Seed Destiny every night. We get along quite well.
This morning I brought him to the mall, binged on lots of ice cream and cake, spilled gravy on my shirt, berrated the mall's broken escalators, played Red Alert--- boy stuff. He's only thirteen after all. (Not a boy, not yet a man?) Still doesn't like girls. Still needs someone to remind him to take a bath after school. Still dreams of buying model kits and toys. Still as short as a dwarf.
But he cleans the room now (a chore I did everyday since I was ten), worries about his hair, studies harder (in hopes of "at least being half as smart as her 'coordinator' sister"), and even thinks about taking up nursing!
In little ways, he has grown up. (though not vertically. Haha)
When he's a lot older, I will probably miss these days the most. I actually feel a little sad right now, because I rarely think of things like this. Anyway, nobody knows what the future holds, so today, and the day after that, and the day after that day, I will keep on being the sister he looks up to. And hopefully...next year...we'll have chocolate cake again.
sweet and nice. but not cheesy.
