Second day ng seminar namin on Effective Supervisory Skills. It's amazing how much you learn on these things. Akala mo common sense siya sa tagal ng panahon na naging leader ka sa college years mo, pero andami mo pang dapat matutunan.
For example, having a vision and mission. Every org cannot exist (or last) without it. Sounds simple and common, right? But can you tell the difference between a vision and a mission? Do you have your own personal vision and mission in life? Do you merely exist like driftwood floating on the water's surface? Or are you the someone who creates the ripples in other people's lives?
Another is the difference between managing and leading. A manager is a pusher, focused on efficiency, and task-oriented. A leader is a puller, focused on effectiveness, and is person-oriented. Good leaders can become good managers but not all good managers can good become leaders.
Tsaka alam nyo ba ang pinagkaiba ng efficiency at effectiveness? You are efficient when you do your work well. You are effective when you influence others well.
Tapos eto pa, matalino si Erap! He has what is termed fluid inteliligence, or street smarts. Other kinds include crystalline int (book smarts) at creative int (art smarts).
Amazing talaga.
